Our mission is to serve, and we don’t do it for the accolades, but it sure feels good for team members to earn national honors for serving members more efficiently. In case you missed the news, our lending team was recently recognized as one of the best and brightest in the industry. Georgia United picked up a Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Lending Council Excellence In Lending Awards for our entry entitled “Incremental Changes Bring Big Results." COMMUNITY IMPACT

Georgia United Credit Union and Georgia United Foundation are dedicated to supporting impactful programs that enrich the lives of others and strengthen our communities. In addition to our corporate initiatives, team members are provided paid Service Days to volunteer at charities that are important to them. Here are a few recent highlights of how we are serving our community.

EARNING FOR LEARNING

Georgia United Foundation is accepting applications for its 29th annual Scholarship Competition through January 31. The competition is open to high school seniors preparing to attend a college or technical school during the 2023-2024 academic year. A total of $25,000 will be awarded across six scholarships. High school students are eligible for the competition if they, their parents, grandparents or legal guardian have been a Georgia United member for at least six months prior to the application submission. The contest encourages college and technical school-bound students to showcase their creativity by submitting a one-minute video explaining how they will utilize their education to benefit the community. Winners will be announced in March.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT

Georgia United team members recently spent the day volunteering at Junior Achievement’s Atlanta Discovery Center capping off another calendar year of supporting this real-life experiential learning program for middle schoolers. In 2022, Georgia United provided more than 332 volunteer hours to JA, impacting 1,415 students in our communities. But we’re not done, of course, as more volunteer dates are already set for spring 2023 semester. Georgia United Foundation is one of only two Enterprise Sponsors of JA of Georgia, providing financial and volunteer support for JA Discovery Centers in Atlanta, Cumming, Dalton, Gwinnett, Savannah and the upcoming location in Augusta and our President and CEO Debbie Smith is an officer on JA of Georgia’s Board of Directors.

FOUNDATION AT A GLANCE

It was another successful year of growth, changes and direct community impact as Georgia United Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Georgia United Credit Union, demonstrated the core values and principals of the credit union movement in 2022. Sustained, authentic and consistent philanthropy is what sets Georgia United apart from other financial institutions. Besides the aforementioned scholarships and JA programs, here’s a quick glance at how we enrich lives via member and partner support.

  • Since 2014, our School Crashers school improvement program has provided $1.8 million in upgrades to educational facilities, impacting 63 schools and more than 43,600 students in Georgia.
  • Our Can Hunger annual food drive has provided more than 386,000 meals to folks experiencing food insecurity in our communities.
  • Our Wish Tree initiative (pictured above) has donated more than 32,500 holiday gifts for children in need, including more than 1,700 in the latest campaign.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to another year of fulfilling our mission and purpose.
